Probably the biggest obstacle is going to be her mental health and some training. She has been through a lot and is going to need to trust people and learn new things, like being caught and handled. This is going to take some time and obviously some money.

If you live within 100 miles of MHWF, then you have probably heard something about this case as well. This was also big tv news in this area as well. It was about a farm in Pittsville that had a lot of horses and maybe they needed some help with them. MHWF was there immediately and brought hay and grain and whatever else we could muster that would help out. We also removed 6 horses from the property and will be going back for more. Stormy was one of those horses and we felt was probably the most urgent.

Stormy is a 5 year old pinto mare, sound and healthy. When we found her, she had never been touched by human hands  and had never so much as had a halter on. She lived most of her life if not all of her life in a 40 foot round pen, no shelter, mud, rain, snow, little food and was not getting the care she needed.

Despite the neglect humans put her through, she is still a very sweet little mare. She is now at the MHWF facility in a paddock with access to shelter and has been wormed and vaccinated. She went from a completely wild horse to a horse that allows us to approach her and even pet her. She still has issues with trust and much to learn, but likes our attention and is pretty happy go lucky. In order to properly care for this little girl and be able to turn her out in a herd so she can live more freely, we need to be able to catch her and trim her, worm her.....all the things that come with being a horse. Basically, for us to be able to help her any further, she needs to be trained. From there we can trim her and do all the things she needs.

MHWF will keep both of these horses here until they are ready to move on to their new lives. That's going to take time, vet care, training and let's admit it.....money.

We have someone who we know and trust that is experienced with this kind of situation and would like to bring her here from Michigan to work with these horses and help them prepare for their new lives. This person is a kind person who knows the approach to take with both of these horses is a kind gentle one. She is willing to work with us on this project and her offer is very generous, but she has a family and travel expenses as well as hotels and all the things that come with that as well.

MHWF would like to ask all of you to help us with this situation by making a small donation toward the feed, vet care, medicines and training we will need to truly make a difference in the lives of these 2 horses. We will provide the care and our trusted friend will come down from Michigan and work with them both for as long as it takes to get them to where we can turn them out in the pasture with the other horses like a horse should be and so we can catch them for regular trimmings etc.

Our goal is to reach $1500.00 toward the care and training of these 2 horses. That probably won't get them from where they are to solid riding horses, but it certainly will get them healthy and give us the ability to handle them and give them proper care. We can think of no greater gift than a second chance and your donation will do exactly that, give them that second chance. Neither of these horses are "bad horses" and neither of them did anything wrong to put them into the situations they are in.
