The purpose of this application is to find people to potentially attend Humane Officer training classes in Madison, WI and to fill Humane Officer positions in various counties throughout Wisconsin. Anyone is free to attend this one week course on their own., but the purpose of this application is for people who would like to use the Presage Project help them pay for the course as well as get deputized by the county. We will be looking for one or two people in each Wisconsin county, except counties which already have the personnel in place, to complete this process, we will then choose the most qualified person in that county. Once we determine that person, we will start the process of talking with the county to get this person deputized as well as start to collect donations to pay for the state training to become a Humane Officer. Please keep in mind that you must live within the county or very near that county to become a Humane Officer. If you are chosen as one of the people to go through this program, it is the intention of MHWF, Inc. to help you in being deputized by the county and to work with your county officials to make that a priority to them.

Submitting this application does not obligate you to go through any part of this process. It is to show us that you would like to be considered for this process. Being chosen to go to Humane Officer training also does not guarantee that you will go through the process. That choice is left up to the individual county. MHWF along with the help of it's supporters and other horse related organizations will work along with you and the county to try to make that a reality.

This is not a legal document, but is merely to obtain names and info for a database that will help us to find the most qualified people in each Wisconsin county. Being that becoming a Humane Officer is not an easy process and requires cooperation from county officials, we do not expect to receive an over-abundace of applications from any one county, although the more applications we receive, the more qualified people we will be able to find. Before completing this application, please consider what is required to become a Humane Officer. You must first get approval from the county you wish to work in, otherwise your state certification will be of little use to you or your county. You must also attend a one week course in the fall which is held in Madison, WI. You will need to complete that course and pass the state exam at the end of the week. Once you become certified and deputized by the county you can then work as a Humane Officer in that county. This may or may not be a full time job, depending on the county's needs and budget. Being a Humane Officer is not always a fun job. You must deal with difficult people and people who do not want you around. A Humane Officer must be able to separate personal opinion with what is law. They must be able to talk to people in a way that does not hinder their investigation. Humane Officers work unpredictable hours and have to travel around the county. They must be able to handle themselves in a professional manner even in hostile situations. The drive to become a Humane Officer must come from the heart and a person's desire to put an animal's welfare over their own in many cases. This requires a special kind of person.
